Penetration Testing
Find the weaknesses before an attacker does, then have our Red Team close them
What is a penetration test, and who needs one?
A penetration test is an authorized, simulated attack on your business. IP Solutions' Red Team uses the same techniques real attackers use against your network, applications, Wi-Fi, and employees. The goal is to find the weaknesses that can actually be exploited, before someone else does.
Penetration testing is built for two kinds of organizations. The first is companies with high security requirements: healthcare, finance, education, manufacturing, and anyone handling payment cards or regulated data. The second is companies recovering from a breach, which need an independent audit of their network security. Engagements can be one-time assessments or multi-year testing programs. Every test ends with a report ranked by business risk. Your team can handle remediation, or the IP Solutions Red Team can do it for you. A retest is included to prove the fixes hold.
What types of penetration testing does IP Solutions perform?
| Test type | What we test | What it answers |
|---|---|---|
| External network | Your internet-facing firewalls, VPNs, servers, and exposed services | What an outside attacker can reach and exploit |
| Internal network | Workstations, servers, Active Directory, and internal segments | How far an attacker could move after getting inside |
| Web application | Customer portals, web apps, and APIs | Injection, authentication, and data-exposure flaws |
| Wireless | Office and guest Wi-Fi networks | Weak encryption, rogue access points, and network bleed-over |
| Social engineering | Staff, via simulated phishing and pretexting | Whether people can be tricked into giving up access |
How does a penetration test work?
- Scoping. We agree on targets, test types, timing, and rules of engagement in writing.
- Testing. The Red Team performs reconnaissance, identifies vulnerabilities, and safely attempts to exploit them.
- Reporting. You receive an executive summary and a technical findings report with severity ratings and remediation steps.
- Remediation. Your staff fixes the findings, or the IP Solutions Red Team handles remediation for you.
- Retest. We retest the findings to verify each fix and update the report.
One-time assessment or multi-year program?
One-time assessments fit a specific need: a post-breach audit, a compliance deadline, an insurance renewal, or a check before a major system launch.
Multi-year programs test on a recurring schedule. That lets you show auditors and insurers continuous improvement and catch new exposures as your network changes.
Reports built for compliance
Reports are written to support PCI DSS, HIPAA, SOC 2 evidence, and cyber-insurance requirements. Ongoing protection after the test is covered by our network security and device protection & backup services.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is penetration testing?
Penetration testing (pen testing) is an authorized, simulated cyberattack against your network, applications, wireless, or staff. It finds vulnerabilities an attacker could actually exploit. Unlike an automated vulnerability scan, a penetration test confirms which weaknesses are real, shows how they can be chained together, and ranks them by business risk.
How often should a business get a penetration test?
Most organizations test at least once a year and after any major change to their network or applications. Many compliance frameworks and cyber-insurance carriers expect annual testing. IP Solutions offers one-time assessments and multi-year testing programs that retest on a recurring schedule.
Do we need a penetration test after a data breach?
Yes. After a breach you need independent evidence that the attacker's path is closed and that no other weaknesses remain. A post-breach penetration test documents your current exposure, verifies remediation, and produces a report you can share with insurers, auditors, and leadership.
Will the penetration test report satisfy PCI, HIPAA, or cyber-insurance requirements?
IP Solutions reports are written to support PCI DSS, HIPAA security risk analysis, SOC 2 evidence, and cyber-insurance questionnaires. Each report includes an executive summary, a technical findings list with severity ratings, and remediation guidance.
What happens after the penetration test?
You receive the report and a walkthrough of the findings. You can fix the issues with your own staff, or have the IP Solutions Red Team perform the remediation. Either way, a retest is included to verify that the fixes work.
